THE FRIDAY REPORT
By Nick Bugeja
Wednesday night's baskteball game was entertaining to say the least as the Raptors recovered from their disappointing loss the week before with a crushing victory over posers B.N.S.
Still suffering discomfort in his left thumb from last week's game, Chief decided to start on the bench. After starting the game late due to the opposition not playing for the scoresheet, play started scrappily. After B.N.S. scored the first 2 points for the game, the Raptors ran away with it, scoring 26 points in the first half.
Chief started on the court in the second half, giving Stuey Peters a spell after scoring 8 points in the first half. B.N.S came out with heart and managed to elevate their score to 7 points. The Raptors stacking on basket after basket to take their game total to 50.
Impressive individual performances from Stuey Peters, scoring 10 points, who has suffered and run of bad luck with the ring in the last few weeks. Gruj also had another impressive game contributing heavily to the scoreboard, topscoring with 11.
This decent win will improve the Raptors' percentage, which was the lowest for all the teams in the top 4. Scarily, B.N.S. have won 3 games for the season, and AREN'T on the bottom of the ladder. Next week the Raptors face ACP, who hopefully turn out to be one of the teams making B.N.S. look like a basketball team.

NEWS: NICK'S WRISTS STAYED UN-SLASHED!
The Richmond Tigers, the long-suffering tribal Aussie Rules Football team recorded their first win in 11 months at the weekend against Hawthorn. In a nail-biting last quarter, Richmond played with the desperation and heart that the Yellow and Black army had been craving.
The Tigers were lead from the front by newly appointed captain Kane Johnson who kicked an important "captain's goal" mid-way into the last quarter, but was then taken from the ground to have his ankle strapped. The rest of the leadership team were quick to make up the slack, with Matthew Richardson beating three Hawks defenders in a display of individual brilliance to deliver the ball to Nathan Brown who then kicked a goal from 40 out, seeing Richmond hit the front by 3 points. Richmond then turned on the gas, delivering the ball to youngster Kayne Pettifer, who scored two more goals, seeing Richmond run out victorious by 15 points.
The win was significant for Richmond, ending the clubs record-breaking 15 games losing streak in what many had touted the battle for the wooden spoon. Despite having to work so hard for the win, the club has come away feeling very positive about it's immediate future. The club faces one of it's arch-rivals the Western Bulldogs this sunday at the Telstra Dome in Melbourne, which will be another tough game as the Bulldogs, despite a loss at the weekend, are looking stronger than they have in recent years.

BLAH!
The Raptors suffered a significant loss on wednesday night at the hands of the referees and The Playaz. Within the first two minutes Gruj mildly injured his right arm when, in an act of defensive desperation slammed into the score bench after spoiling an oppostion pass. Not even thirty seconds later Scotty landed on his knee awkwardly. The opportunity was taken to replace them both to give them decent rest time to avoid further injury.
It was the night for injuries with Chief damaging his thumb during a spoil. Things went from bad to worse for Chief and the team when the star player was fouled off 2 minutes before the half-time buzzer - a victim of inconsistant referreeing.
After half-time time it was apparent the Raptors would be unable to win the game, as their shots weren't sinking and they were being beaten in the air. One of the most significant moments was when three Raptors talls were beaten to a defensive rebound by the shortest player on the Playaz team. From there it was a white-wash of Playaz points, with them scoring 15 in the last 10 minutes to the Raptors 2.
Out of the disappointing loss were positive signs for Scotty who, despite coming off earlier with a banged knee, continued to run out the game and put in a positive individual effort. Other mentions go out to Stu for putting some much needed score on the board (unfortunately not enough to abate the loss) and Gruj who put in a fantastic performance. He seems to be continuing to improve, perhaps a return to past form for the little big man is just over the horizon.
